Dickie What I get from your writing is that the NMD is just yet another fact of who you are versus what you are. Too that I say bravo. As with many of the situations we have heard in those rooms the situation, the facts, the terrible things that others have done to us , the gdawful stuff that has been foisted upon us by the powers that be are never the real issue - we, our actions, our responses belong solely to us and Dickie Boy your example , your ability to walk the walk( a helluva time to attribute that to you) is the best argument for the essentials of the program.
Love this post. :) I share your thinking, and would love to (while at the same I'm almost glad that I don't) have the retrospective perspective that your 40 year time away gives you in being able to compare NZ, past and present . It gives you the ability to see with clarity the backwards shift and stagnation that too many people can't see (the forest for the trees!), but that needs to be recognised in order to get this (damn) country to move forward properly...

It almost does your (and by your, I mean mine) head in! :P

(And by almost, I mean it does!) :)

In 1996 I was training for the California Aids Ride, San Francisco to Los Angeles. I was training on the Santa Monica Bay Bike Path when a Life Guard, on a Bike, cut across my bows and hit me head on. I fractured my skull, much internal head bleeding, in a Coma. I was taken to the Hospital in Marina del Rey, the care was awesome as was all my care over the next year. I was insured, at a cost of $350.00 per month. It did not cover the cost of rebuilding my mouth. The medical professionals in Los Angeles were simply that, Professional and I felt well cared for. They were pro-active, unlike my New Zealand experiences. I was a half inch from brain dead. I find the lower levels of NZ Health Care to be awesome. It's the bureaucrats that will kill me in the end :)
